Patiala, August 9
In a bid to bolster security and dissuade anti-social elements ahead of the Independence Day, a comprehensive cordon and search operation was carried out at all railway stations within the Patiala range today. The operation was conducted under the strict directives of the Punjab DGP and Special DGP (Law and Order).
DIG Patiala Range, Harcharan Singh Bhullar, said that a total of 58 police teams were deployed across 16 railway stations in Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala and Malerkotla districts. During the operation, a check of 318 suspicious individuals was conducted using the PAIS app. The PAIS (Punjab Artificial Intelligence System) app, designed exclusively for Punjab Police, offers advanced features for law enforcement. Users can add and manage data related to criminals. The app employs AI-based facial recognition and advanced textual search features to identify criminals.
Additionally, an inspection of 56 motorcycles and 206 other vehicles parked for over three days was carried out through the VAHAN app. As a result, challans were issued to 23 vehicles found to be in violation of traffic rules.
The police authorities have emphasised that such operations would be conducted regularly to ensure the safety and security of railway passengers and to thwart any potential threats.
