The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) caught a junior engineer of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) posted at Nabha red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the suspect, Narinder Singh, was arrested following a complaint of Bhola Chand Singla, a resident of Shiva Enclave, Nabha. The complainant had approached the VB and stated that Narinder Singh sought a bribe of Rs 10,000 for adjusting the pending fine against an electricity meter installed at his residence. The complainant alleged that the JE had already taken Rs 10,000 and demanding Rs 10,000 more.
The spokesperson said after a preliminary probe, the VB team laid a trap and nabbed the suspect while he was allegedly accepting bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The tainted bribe amount was recovered from him.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him at the VB police station, Patiala range. Further investigation in the case was under progress.
