PPSC chairperson calls time on ‘second innings’

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) chairperson Jatinder Singh Aulakh retired from his position. He held the office from January 29, 2024 till January 3, 2025, and introduced key reforms that positively impacted Punjab’s public service framework.

Aulakh joined the Punjab Police in 1990 as a DSP and eventually retired as the Intelligence Chief of the state on the rank of ADGP. Over his career, he held prominent positions including Commissioner of Police Ludhiana and Amritsar, and SSP in districts like SBS Nagar, SAS Nagar, Rupnagar and Sangrur, gaining extensive experience in law enforcement across Punjab.

As PPSC chairperson, Aulakh implemented crucial reforms, including making the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) qualifying in nature, aligning it with UPSC standards.

He also introduced the inclusion of Punjab’s history in the syllabus, aiming to deepen candidates’ understanding of the region. The change is expected to level the playing field for non-engineering candidates and foster greater regional awareness.

The PCS notification, released on his final day in office, entailed 322 posts, further reflecting his commitment to strengthening the recruitment process.

During his tenure, 547 individuals were successfully recruited across various departments of Punjab, underscoring his focus on efficiency and transparency in public service.
