Former Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur today expressed concern over the long-standing grievances of the Punjab Home Guards Welfare Association (Retd.) and assured them of her support in securing their rightful recognition and welfare measures.

In a detailed memorandum submitted to her, the Association highlighted that Punjab Home Guards have, for over three decades, rendered indispensable service to the state. They have consistently performed critical duties such as maintaining law and order, providing VIP and election security, managing traffic, and assisting during natural calamities. Despite their pivotal role, they said, they continue to be denied parity with the Punjab Police in service conditions, regularization, and post-retirement benefits.

The Association also recalled that orders pertaining to their reinstatement were issued by the Punjab Government in 2018 but rued that little progress has been witnessed in their implementation. Many retired Home Guards, after decades of service, they added, face financial and social hardships as they are deprived of pensions, medical cover and other welfare provisions.

Taking cognizance of their situation, Preneet Kaur has addressed a formal communication to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging his immediate intervention.

In her letter, she remarked: “The Home Guards of Punjab have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Punjab Police in safeguarding peace and public order. Their exclusion from basic service rights and welfare benefits is a matter of grave concern.”

“I respectfully urge you to take prompt steps to regularize their services, ensure timely disbursement of wages, and extend pensionary and welfare measures at par with other uniformed forces. Such recognition is not a concession, but a rightful acknowledgment of their decades of dedicated service to the State,” the former MP added.
