Probe ordered into blood donation camps coming up without nod ahead of Jor Mela
With several blood donation camps, some without getting proper permissions from the health department, coming up in the city ahead of the Shaheedi Jor Mela, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ropar Range HS Bhullar has ordered a probe.
The DIG has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to form an SIT to look into the permissions.
Notably, The Tribune reported that several camps had sprung up in the area days ahead of the Jor Mela without the health department’s nod.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind has also directed Sub-Divisional Magistrate to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, some of the organisers have also left in a huff after winding up their camps.
Civil Surgeon Dr Devinderjit Kaur also visited the camp sites and in a press release said that all organisations or individuals who want to set up blood donation or other medical camps during the Jor Mela should seek prior permission from the health department.
Warning of strict action against those flouting the rules, she said the applications received for organising blood donation camps and medical camps are being scrutinized thoroughly and only those who fulfill the conditions as per the prescribed criteria will be allowed to set up.
The Civil Surgeon added that inspection teams have been formed under the leadership of Senior Medical Officer Dr KD Singh, and in-charge of the Blood Bank Dr. Parveen Kaur. The teams will continuously inspect the medical camps set up or to be set up during the Jor Mela.
