Profs against mixopathy, suspend teaching for 2 hours

Rejecting the Central Government’s move allowing ayurvedic practitioners perform surgical procedures of multiple specialities, professors of Government Medical and Dental Colleges and Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, today, observed a two-hour pen-down protest on a call given by the local unit of the Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers Association (PSMDTA).

Except emergency and Covid-19 related services, all other services including outdoor functioning, elective surgeries and teaching of medical students remained suspended for two hours.

In a joint press statement, Dr DS Bhullar, president, and Dr Darshanjit Singh Walia, general secretary of the association, alleged that the Central Government was bent upon legalising quackery in the country, which may play havoc with the lives of the people and patients by mixing ayurvedic and allopathic systems of medicine.

Instead of encouraging such mixopathy, all systems in medicine should be promoted separately, they added.

Making a appeal to allopathic doctors of the country to immediately stop deputing ayurvedic practioners in allopathic hospitals and nursing homes, association leaders demanded immediate resignation of Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister, on moral grounds, who they alleged himself was an allopath, but failed to the protect the modern allopathic system.

Rather he had misguided the Central Government in drafting such mixopathy law in the country, which in fact was a retrograde step detrimental to the health of the people, said association leaders.

The Government of India should withdraw this controversial notification in the public interest as such a system of the medical practice exists nowhere in the world, association leaders added.
