Patiala, March 4

Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, inaugurated the new fruit and vegetable market by auctioning the potato crop in Mahmadpur village. Barsat expressed gratitude to the village council for donating 83 acres of land to the Mandi Board.

He said that the fruit and vegetable market has been established here as there are no industries in the village, adding that the work for the development of the market yard is underway. Barsat said this initiative would provide employment opportunities for youth and ensure fair prices for farmers.

Addressing mediapersons, he further said that the sheds, which were constructed at a cost of Rs 90 lakh, are being operated efficiently, and gates would be installed soon. He added that shops would also be constructed here. He also said that due to the location of Mahmadpur Mandi, approximately 40,000 farmers in 25-km radius would be able to sell their produce.
