Patiala, July 12

Students heaved a sigh of relief as Punjabi University decided to cancel its decision to collect fee for the upcoming semester by July 17. The university witnessed protests by students belonging to various student organisations on the campus after which the authorities decided to revoke the decision.

In a written statement, university officials stated that the decision was taken in view of the lockdown imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and demands of student organisations. “The notification for submission of fee for third, fifth, seventh and ninth semesters issued on July 6 has now been revoked,” they added. However, the university has not yet decided on final date for the submission of fee.

Meanwhile, students said, “The university is expected to collect fee at the beginning of semester and not before that. The Covid-19 situation has already burdened students and their parents. The university has taken a right decision, which is in the interest of students.”

“The university has given relief to many students of professional courses by allowing them to deposit fee in installments after they submit applications for inability to pay it on time,” said another student.
