Eyewitnesses said the student initially left the hall but returned moments later carrying an iron bench. Before Dr Chand could react, the student allegedly struck him on the head and fled the scene.

Dr Chand was rushed to the University Hospital and later referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. “The CT scan of the patient has been conducted. No stitches have been applied so far,” said Dr Vishal Chopra, Medical Superintendent, Rajindra Hospital.
