Patiala, February 9
Guru Kashi University, Bathinda, and Chandigarh University (CU) have filed a contempt petition in the High Court against Punjabi University, Patiala. The petition was filed over the disqualification of their archers from the Inter-Zonal Inter-University Archery Championship held in December last year.
The participants were disqualified and stripped of the medals they had won in the event over suspicion over their enrolment status at their universities. The two varsities alleged the decision was unfair and challenged its legality, considering the fact that the said participants were initially certified by Punjabi University’s Director of Sports. The two universities argued that the decision was made by a jury constituted in violation of the regulations.
Punjabi University Director of Sports Ajita refused to comment on the issue since the matter was sub-judice.
