Punjabi University welcomes budget allocation for hostel, salary increases
The Punjabi University authorities have warmly welcomed the increase in the salary grant, as well as the proposal to reserve a grant for the construction of a hostel, in the budget proposals of the Punjab Government for the year 2025-26.
Vice Chancellor Prof Karamjit Singh thanked Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema for this decision and said that the government has increased the salary grant from Rs 375 crore to Rs 393.75 crore this time.
Apart from this, a fund of Rs 10 crore has also been announced for the construction of a new hostel to meet the shortage of hostels at the University.
He said that this decision shows the government's seriousness and commitment towards the higher education sector.
This decision of the government will help the University in fulfilling the dreams of students from poor families of the Malwa region regarding higher education.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the University, Prof Sanjeev Puri, said that the government's budget proposal will provide the necessary financial support for the smooth functioning of the University and the University will emerge from the financial crisis.
He said that in the recent past, due to the start of many new courses and an increase in admissions, the demand for hostels among students has increased significantly and the government's decision to build a new hostel will also help in solving this problem for students.
