Fatehgarh Sahib, the most historic and religious district, where younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh were bricked alive, has continuously been given step-motherly treatment by the AAP government knowingly or unknowingly while sending ministers to hoist national flag at Independence and Republic Day functions. No minister has hoisted the Tricolour in the district on Independence and Republic Days since 2022.

It was on August 15, 2022, when a Cabinet Minister unfurled the flag. Since then the government has sent no minister to preside over the Independence and Republic Day functions. It is the Deputy Commissioner, who has been doing this job on such days. People always wait for some minister to come in anticipation of announcing some grants or projects for the district as it is lacking behind as far as the development is concerned.

Most roads in the rural and urban areas are teeming with potholes. No new project has been initiated in the district. Even the repair work has not been initiated, while the district lacks basic civic amenities.

RN Sharma, president, Senior Citizens Association, Prof Ashok Sood, Varinder Rattan, president, Brahmin Sabha, Rakesh Mangi, president, Khatri Sabha, Sat Pal Puri, president, Sanatan Dharm Committee, Arun Suri, president, Amar Nath Barfani Sewa Dal, and representatives of various NGOs have flayed the government for adopting lackadaisical attitude towards the district. The questioned why the state government was ignoring this historical district year after year.

Meanwhile, to hold the district-level celebrations of the Independence Day, Additional Deputy Commissioner Harpreet Singh held a review meeting. During the meeting, he said Independence Day would be celebrated with enthusiasm at the Sports Stadium in Madhopur. He directed departments concerned to fulfil responsibility assigned to them with dedication and on time.
