Patiala, November 20

With an aim to reduce underlying causes of road accidents, the police in coordination with other departments and civil society have formed accident resolution teams (ARTs).

Newly constituted ARTs will suggest remedies with respect to flaws in road engineering and thoroughly study accident prone black spots in the district.

As many as 25 ARTs headed by respective area Station House Officers (SHO) have been constituted in the district along with other stakeholders.

The members of the teams include traffic in-charge, motor vehicle inspector, project manager, NHAI/sub divisional engineer, junior engineer, engineer (MC), EPO NREGA, municipal councillor/sarpanch and representatives from the local population.

So far, 55 accident-prone black spots have been identified in Patiala. Every ART has been assigned the task of visiting and inspecting black spots in their respective jurisdictions.

After visiting and studying black spots, ARTs will suggest both short term and long term steps to reduce accidents in their respective areas. The recommendations will be sent to the department concerned and implemented at the earliest.

The police have also appealed to residents to participate in the drive and suggest solutions to reduce accidents in the district. The police are of the view that cooperation from the local population and volunteers will help in making the drive successful.
