The toll plazas in region putting the life of commuters at risk have ignored to provide ambulance service during emergency. It was revealed when local MLA Dinesh Chadha checked the ambulance at Solkhian toll plaza situated on the Ropar-Kurali road today.
It was found that an ambulance parked by toll plaza management to fulfil mandatory condition to run the plaza neither had any first aid kit nor any medical attendant. The medicines placed in dilapidated 2011 model ambulance were also expired. Even the pipes of oxygen cylinder were lying open.
Chadha, later in evening returning from Chandigarh also stopped at toll plaza on the Siswan-Kurali road to find similar condition of ambulance.
It had no oxygen cylinder while medicines lying in 2009 model ambulance had already been expired. The toll plaza manager, Ashok Kumar, said he would get all required facilities in ambulance today. He also confirmed that the ambulance driver trained to handle patient was not on duty today.
Chadha said checking of ambulances had not been carried out for the last three years. He said this ambulance only works as a taxi for taking injured persons to hospital.
