Punjabi University has applied for post-facto approval after recently discovering that courses offered by its Distance Education Department have not been approved by the UGC from the 2013-16 session onwards.

Punjabi University has applied for post-facto approval after recently discovering that courses offered by its Distance Education Department have not been approved by the UGC from the 2013-16 session onwards.

Students have been facing problems due to lack of recognition of courses.

University officials said all courses being run by the university were approved by the UGC, the AICTE and other respective government agencies from time to time. They said former students of the university’s Distance Education Department had approached the authorities concerned after their applications for evaluation of degrees were rejected by an international agency.

They submitted their representations with the university soon after which it was discovered that many courses run by the Distance Education Department had not been approved on time from the 2013-2016 session onwards.

A student, who approached the university, regarding application for the evaluation of his degree said, “I spent huge funds on evaluation, but still facing issues due to lapses on part of the university.” “Later, we sought documentary proof from university wherein it was found that 26 courses of the Distance Education Department have not been approved by the UGC. So, we contacted the university authorities,” he added.

Prof Satnam Singh Sandhu, head, Department of Distance Education, said, “Apparently there has been a lapse in sending requisite documents to the UGC. There is no rejection of the approval sought for courses.”

He said university had applied for post-facto approval of courses, which will most-likely come through.

Recently, it had come to light that courses offered by the Distance Education Department of the university have not been approved by the UGC from the 2013-16 session onwards. Apparently its seems a lapse in sending requisite documents to the UGC.
