The Youth Akali Dal under the leadership of its national president Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer organised a three-day ‘Dastaran Da Langar’ during Shaheedi Sabha to pay homage to the martyrdom of younger Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri.

A large numbers of devotees thronged the camp and waited for hours to learn the art of turban tying.

Addressing the media, Jhinjer said the bravery of the younger Sahibzadas and devotion to their Guru and faith would continue to inspire generations of Sikhs around the world.

He said more than 1,500 devotees, including young kids took part in this ‘Dastaran Da Langar’, and were tied turbans as a symbol of Sikh pride and heritage. The camp was initiated with ardas by Bhai Harpal Singh, head granthi of Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.

Jhinjer said they were fortunate that they were carrying forward the legacy of the younger Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri who embodied the values of Sikhism, including courage, sacrifice and devotion to one’s faith.

He said the Youth Akali Dal was committed to preserving the rich history and heritage of the Sikh community and would continue to organise such events to promote Sikh pride and unity.

Waste management

The Rotary Club, Sirhind, launched a cleanliness initiative at Shaheedi Sabha by collecting garbage, waste material and disposables from over 500 community kitchens to ensure proper waste management.

Hitender Suri, president of the club; Vineet Sharma, secretary; and Sunil Bector, treasurer, said they were providing large bags to langar committees and urging them to put the disposables into these.

Vehicles have been pressed into service to collect the bags for disposal.

Suri said the step will ensure cleanliness during Shaheedi Sabha and their primary aim was to encourage people use dustbins for disposal of garbage, thereby keeping the city clean.
