The Haryana Police have registered an FIR against Shutrana Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kulwant Singh Bazigar, his sons and aides on charges of abduction and voluntarily causing hurt, following a complaint by Gurcharan Singh Kala, a resident of Karimnagar (Chichharwal) village. Denying the allegations, the MLA claimed that the complainant had a criminal background, with over 10 FIRs registered against him in various police stations.

According to Kala, he was allegedly abducted at gunpoint by four armed men in a car from Kaithal village. “They tied me up and took me near the Narwana Canal. They made a video call to the MLA and his sons, who pressured me to reach a compromise,” he alleged, adding that he had an old rivalry with the MLA, who also belongs to Karimnagar village.

Kala said he had opposed the village sarpanch — the MLA’s brother — and had been active on social media highlighting alleged wrongdoings by the legislator. He further alleged that the MLA, along with his sons and aides, later directed the abductors to kill him. “They attacked me with rods and left me grievously injured. I would not have survived if farmers from nearby fields hadn’t come to my rescue and rushed me to the Nirwana hospital,” he said, adding that he would “not compromise” and would “ensure legal action against the MLA and his relatives”.

Following the complaint, the Kaithal Police on Tuesday registered an FIR at the Guhla police station under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 140(2) (kidnapping or abducting a person to demand ransom), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 25 of the Arms Act.

Kaithal SP Upasana confirmed that an FIR had been registered based on Kala’s statement and the medical report. “We will now investigate the matter and action will be taken based on evidence,” she said.

Denying the charges, MLA Bazigar called the allegations “baseless”, saying, “All accusations against me and my family members are completely false. Gurcharan Singh is a habitual offender with over 10 FIRs against him. He has been opposing me and my brother, who is the village sarpanch. He even approached the High Court against my brother’s unanimous selection as sarpanch. When the court ordered fresh elections, my brother won again, which is why Gurcharan Singh holds a grudge against us.”

Guhla DSP Kuldeep Beniwal said there was “no clarity yet” on the MLA’s role in the case. “A three-member SIT has been formed, and CCTV footage will be scrutinised to ascertain the truth. Action will be taken as per law against anyone found guilty,” he added.

Earlier, in September, AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura, who represents the Khadoor Sahib Assembly constituency, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment along with others by a Tarn Taran court for molesting a woman during an event over a decade ago — a conviction that triggers automatic disqualification under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Supreme Court’s 2013 Lily Thomas judgment.
