Punjabi University has decided to charge Rs50,000 as fee for allowing its former students, who failed to complete their courses due to absence or could not clear one of their papers in the semester. The university said the offer was as a special chance for students to complete their courses.

“A special fee of Rs50,000 has been decided for those, who could not complete their course or class because of being absent or failing in a paper of the semester,” the university added.

Also, the university will charge Rs40,000 from those students, who could not pass their re-appear or improvement examination within the allotted time as per the rules. This is for re-appear in two papers in a maximum two semesters.

The university will collect separate form and examination fee from students. This chance is being offered for students other than MPhil and PhD scholars.

While some students said the university was charging exorbitant fee officials said it was a special offer provided every year and there was only a marginal increase in the fee.

Dr Jasvirinder Singh Khattar said, “The university is offering this chance to those, who have not been able to attain their degrees. This is a special initiative by the university. Also, the fee has been increased only marginally from that charged last year.”— TNS
