The police have rounded up two underage persons after a speeding SUV, allegedly recklessly driven by one of them, mowed down seven commuters, resulting in the death of one of them in Patran on Sunday. The police were yet to get conducted the medical examination of both accused, who were caught by passers-by.
According to the police, the duo were driving an Uttar Pradesh-registered Thar vehicle. Both of them belonged to Dirba in Sangrur and were out for a drive when the mishap occurred. “We shifted seven injured to the hospital. Two of them were referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital due to grievous injuries. One of them, identified as Tarsem (50), has died,” said police post incharge Karnail Singh. “The two suspects were handed over to us by the local residents and we are trying to verify their claims,” he said.
The vehicle first hit two persons on the road and then two bike-borne youths, leaving them severely injured. Later, the SUV crashed into a kiosk, injuring those sitting inside.
“The two occupants were young boys aged around 15-16 years and we are trying to ascertain in whose name the vehicle is registered,” the police said.
