Patiala, March 28
Unable to hold a meeting of the Syndicate due to curfew impositions over the threat of spread of Covid-19, Punjabi University, today circulated the agenda of university budget for the upcoming fiscal year to all syndicate members. Registrar of the university, Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar today said the agenda had been sent to all syndicate members, who will give their comments by March 30.
The university had on March 23 held a meeting of the finance committee through teleconferencing. Registrar Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar said the meeting thus held, continued for over an hour, in which all items were discussed.
The Syndicate body includes the Vice-Chancellor, Secretary, Education Department, three deans of faculties, two persons among the heads of departments other than deans, three principals of colleges among others.
A member of the Syndicate expressed disagreement with the process of holding the meeting for clearance of the budget.
He said, “The university officials could have taken special permission from the Deputy Commissioner’s office to commute to the university to hold a meeting. The motive of the meeting is to discuss various items and come to a conclusion, but no discussion can be held in the present manner of circulation of agenda.”
Registrar Dr Nijjar said the Syndicate members were supposed to send their responses over the budget by March 30, after which the final decision will be taken. He also added that the Syndicate meeting, through circulation, was being held as per provisions of the university calendar.
