The Animal Husbandry Department has formed 44 teams to start a door-to-door vaccination drive to administer the foot-and-mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine to 3,57,915 cows/buffaloes in the district.
Sharing details in this regard, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, Dr Bikramjit Singh said the department’s teams have started the seventh phase of the FMD prevention vaccination work from October 15 in villages falling under the six tehsils, which include Patiala, Rajpura, Nabha, Dudhansadhan, Samana and Patran. This work will be completed by November 29.
The Deputy Director mentioned that the Animal Husbandry Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has initiated the FMD vaccination work across Punjab starting from October 15. Under the initiative, all livestock farmers in the district are informed that they should get the FMD vaccination done on time to protect their livestock from the disease.
He said the efforts will help help make Punjab free from FMD, allowing the state to contribute to the international market trade of milk and other dairy products, adding, “This will lead to the development of Punjab’s livestock farmers and further progress for our state.”
