Update Aadhaar cards issued 10 years ago, DC asks residents

Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney has issued an appeal to residents to ensure that their Aadhaar information is up to date. She informed the public that the government had initiated an exercise to strengthen citizens’ Aadhaar by updating their latest Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (POA) documents.

Sawhney also noted that residents who enrolled for Aadhaar before 2015 need to get their documents updated.

She urged residents to update their Aadhaar by uploading supportive documents, such as the latest the POI and POA documents at the nearest Aadhaar centre. She added that residents need to revalidate their data as well. If a mobile number is registered in Aadhaar, the resident can also avail of this service online by logging in at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/. Aadhaar has emerged as the most widely accepted proof of identity, with provisions to identify a resident through biometric authentication. It is being used to avail numerous government services and benefits, Sawhney said.

During the District Level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee (DLAMC) review of the status of Aadhaar in the Patiala district, Bhawna Garg, DDG UIDAI, urged residents to verify their Aadhaar before accepting it as proof of identity as it would help in identifying fake Aadhaar cards.
