The Special Cell in Rajpura thwarted a targeted killing by apprehending a suspect linked to an international criminal network.
The accused was nabbed before he could carry out the planned attack, the police said.
Harry Boparai, incharge of Special Cell, Rajpura, said the arrested individual had been identified as Jashanpreet Singh, a resident of Panjoli village in Fatehgarh Sahib district. The accused was nabbed at a police naka near Kheri Gandiyan on a tip-off.
One .32 calibre sophisticated pistol, five cartridges and one .315 calibre countrymade pistol with two cartridges were seized from him. Jashanpreet had been booked under various sections of the Arms Act.
Singh is reportedly an associate of a US-based gangster and was operating under instructions to target an individual connected with Pehalwan Group of Fatehgarh Sahib. During interrogation, he revealed the weapons were provided by the handlers to carry out targeted killing in Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib.
