Fatehgarh Sahib, February 15

District Election Officer-cum-DC Parneet Shergill, while flagging off a special awareness van fitted with audio and video devices, said the Election Commission of India has prepared awareness vans, which will go to villages and towns to make people aware about voting.

She said the van will cover all three Assembly constituencies falling in the district — Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh and Bassi Pathana. She added that through these vans, the voters will also be trained in the use of EVMs and VVPAT machines.

The DC said the constitution of India has given the right to vote, so it becomes the duty of every citizen to exercise it. She said as per the directions of the Election Commission of India, anyone above the age of 18 can make his vote by filling Form No. 6 or call on the helpline number 1950.

She said this drive will be taken to the grassroots level to create awareness among the voters in remote rural areas and the respective SDMs have been directed to supervise the campaign in their areas. She said signboards, hoardings and banners are also being placed in public places.
