Punjabi University: Webinar dwells on musical perspective in Guru Tegh Bahadur’s writings

Punjabi University organised a webinar on musical perspective in writings of Guru Tegh Bahadur here today. The event was organised by the Gurmat Sangeet Chair of Punjabi University. Bhai Ashok Singh Bagrian, a Sikh scholar and heir to the 400-year-old Bagria tradition, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr Nivedita Singh, a classical singer and professor at the Department of Music, was the keynote speaker at the webinar. While reciting hymns from ‘Bani’ of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib he said, “Guru Sahib has recited 57 ‘shaloks’ in addition to 59 ‘shabads’ in 17 ‘ragas’.”

Prof Paramvir Singh, head of Sikh Encyclopedia Department, said it was the 45th webinar organised by Punjabi University and dedicated to the fourth birth centenary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib.

The webinar was attended by many listeners from home and abroad, including faculty and researchers.
