Soon after the results were declared, Gunmay, along with other students, were called at DAV School and honoured for their achievements. The board has also released the revised toppers’ list containing the AIR rank, marks scored, category, gender and state name.

Elated, Gunmay — whose parents are radiologists — expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of India for deciding that there would be no retest for NEET-UG. The decision came after taking into account various factors related to the exam.

Welcomes SC ruling

I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. I had put in a lot of hard work, studying for 14 hours daily. The court has rightly ruled that the students should not pay the price for the dishonesty of a handful of aspirants who resorted to cheating. —Gunmay Garg, AIR 1

“I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court. I had put in a lot of hard work, studying for 14 hours daily. The court has rightly ruled that the students should not pay the price for the dishonesty of a handful of aspirants who resorted to cheating,” said Gunmay, who wishes to join AIIMS, New Delhi.

Gunmay had earlier topped in the state in the National Standard Examination in Biology (NSEB-2023) conducted by the Association of Teachers in Biological Sciences to promote excellence in biological sciences by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.

Over 24 lakh aspirants competed for 1.08 lakh medical seats in the country. Of these, 56,000 seats are in government institutions, which are sought after due to their superior infrastructure and lower fee.
