Women's golf meet to be held in Patiala on Feb 23
The third Ladies’ Golf Open Tournament is scheduled to be held at BETA (Patiala Army Golf Course) on February 23. The tournament has attracted 48 entries from the Chandigarh Golf Club, Panchkula Golf Club, SEPTA, Chandi Mandir, and KEPTA, Ambala, besides the hosts.
Among the participants, there is a serving Officer Col Raashi Chadha from (BETA) the Patiala Army Golf Club whose drive is hard to beat. Harinder Grewal, ace golfer and lady Captain of the Panchkula Golf Club, will be participating with other 15 members of her club. One of them is Babita Mahajan, who is a low handicapper.
Defending Champion Harinder Grewal, who has won the Captains Cup and Patrons Cup of Chandigarh and Panchkula, respectively, shall also be vying for the two honours.
Rana Virk, organising and press secretary, Pentangular Ladies Open Golf tournament, Patiala, said the tournament was aimed at popularising the sport among local women and also forging a firmer alliance with neighboring golf clubs.
Ashu Singh, who is the three-time President of Chandigarh Golf Club shall be accompanied by 18 golfers of her club, including Guddy Malhi, wife of former GOC Airawat, who is another low handicapper.
Briefing the newspersons, Poppy Harika, president of the organising committee, said that the tournament would be played on the Double Peoria system under Stableford scoring. The participants will compete for the net score and the championship trophy goes to the the best team.
