Workshop on digital archiving tools held in Punjabi University
Patiala, June 24
The Department of English, Punjabi University, Patiala, organised a three-day workshop on digital archiving tools from June 21 to 23.
The workshop was conducted by Vijeta Saini, Doctoral Scholar, Northeastern University, Boston, the US, in which 27 research scholars and members of the faculty from the department participated.
Rajesh Sharma, Head, Department of English, introduced the topic and discussed the contemporary relevance of digital humanities and data archiving.
Vijeta Saini introduced the emerging field of digital humanities, its significance and relevance for contemporary research practices and talked about how digital humanities address the structures and processes of marginalisation in the creation of archives. She elaborated on how archives function and how power operates in the formation and management of digital archives. To facilitate understanding, she gave different sets of exercises to the participants and demonstrated how to fill in details to create their own archives.
