Yet another life lost on killer stretch of Circular Road in Nabha
Earlier, road accident deaths had triggered a protest
Yet another accident on the killer stretch of Circular Road in Nabha claimed the life of a 35-year-old man. It is the fourth death in a road accident on the same stretch in less than a month.
Earlier, road accident deaths had triggered a protest. Residents of the town held a candle light march following which the authorities had swung into action and removed illegal encroachments from the roadside and also challaned over-speeding vehicles, but a few days later the menace resurfaced on the stretch again.
According to information, the incident took place this morning when Abhay Maurya, a resident of Patiala, who worked at a factory in Nabha’s Focal Point, was crossing Circular Road on his motorcycle as he did every day. The Nabha Police said after his bike was hit by a truck, he came under the vehicle, leading to his death on the spot.
Advocate Reet Iqbal Singh Majhail said in the coming days, they would take action to awaken the administration. He said after the candle march, illegal encroachments were removed from the road, but the situation was now back to where it was earlier.
Sources in the administration said a proposal to install traffic lights at two locations and prepare eight speed tables on the road was pending. Patiala police traffic in-charge Karanvir Singh said, “We will install speed gun on this road. Drivers indulging in over-speeding on this road would be challaned.”
