Dhira (48), who hails from Khudian village in Lambi Assembly segment, has held several posts in the party, including general secretary of the Punjab Youth Congress. He is grandson of former MP Jagdev Singh Khudian.

His uncle, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, former president, District Congress Committee, Muktsar, was an aspirant for the party ticket from Lambi in the 2017 Assembly elections.

In the letter, Dhira cited “some personal reasons and other problems” for resigning from his post.

Dhira said, “The party leadership has completely ignored people like me in Lambi in almost four years of our regime. I even sold my agricultural land (spread across 3 acres) for the party activities. I never got favour from any party leader in the past. I have handed over my resignation letter to Jakhar today. Though he tried to convince me, I did not change my decision.” — TNS
