AIR India’s recent decision to cancel several domestic and international flights has understandably caused inconvenience to hundreds of passengers. Its decision to suspend 38 international flights per week and scale back services on certain routes may appear like a setback. But if viewed through the lens of long-term operational stability and safety assurance, it is part of a much-needed introspection. Such a move deserves understanding rather than frustration. In the wake of the recent Dreamliner crash that has sent ripples across the global aviation industry, the cancellations come amid heightened aircraft inspections, adverse weather conditions and enhanced maintenance protocols. For any airline, especially one bearing the national flag, safety must be non-negotiable.
