Double standards: Let Sikh jathas visit Nankana Sahib
The Tribune Editorial: For the devout, visiting Nankana Sahib and Kartarpur and other Sikh shrines in Pakistan is not an indulgence but an affirmation of identity and continuity with the faith’s origins.
THE Union government’s refusal to permit Sikh jathas to visit Nankana Sahib on Guru Nanak Parkash Purab strikes a raw nerve in Punjab. More so when the government has raised no objection to India-Pakistan cricket fixtures. The double standards are glaring, as pointed out by the state CM, Bhagwant Mann. Faith cannot be held hostage to political point-scoring. Pilgrimage to the Guru’s birthplace is not a matter of leisure or entertainment; it is a spiritual necessity for millions of Sikhs across the globe.
