JUST three months after US President Donald Trump triumphantly declared Washington DC a “crime-free zone”, the national capital has been rocked by a lone-wolf attack. National Guard members Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe were shot at near the White House by an Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal. Sarah succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, triggering a political blame game and nationwide outrage. In a typical kneejerk reaction, Trump has announced that his administration will “permanently pause” migration from all “Third World countries”. He has trained his guns on his predecessor Joe Biden, during whose reign Lakanwal, who worked with the CIA in Afghanistan, had entered the US in 2021 under a resettlement programme.
