THE recent India-China spat over Arunachal Pradesh is not a new one. But China is adept in twisting small matters relating to our border dispute into mini-crises. At one level, the issue was a minor one — the detention of an Indian national because there was a problem with her passport. Since she was from Arunachal Pradesh, the Chinese officials insisted that her Indian passport was not valid. According to them, she was actually from Zangan (the Chinese name for Arunachal) or South Tibet, which China claims as its territory.
