World court’s climate verdict: A mirror to state inaction

ON July 23, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), after a marathon 27-month-long proceeding, delivered its advisory opinion on 'Obligations of States in Relation to Climate Change'. The opinion, resulting from an unprecedented participation of sovereign states, is cautious. It does not enlist any new and innovative obligations of the sovereign states for an 'internationally wrongful act' under international law.
