Gurugram, February 7

Calling the murder of Haryana Judge Krishan Kant’s wife and son as a rarest of rare crime, a Gurugram court sentenced convict Mahipal to death.

Mahipal who was the personal security officer (PSO) of then Gurugram Additional Sessions Judge Kishan Kant Sharma gunned down his wife and son 16 months ago.

The court of ADJ Sudheer Parmar held Mahipal guilty under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC, and Section 27 of the Arms Act.

The court took various videos of shooting posted online into account in addition to witnesses of 66 people present at shopping arcade.

The blood samples taken from Mahipal’s clothes too were major evidence presented by the prosecution.

The defence counsel had argued that shooting occurred while Mahipal tried to snatch a gun from Kant’s son Dhruv. The court, however, rejected the same for the want of evidence.

Mahipal had been posted as Sharma’s PSO for one-and-a-half years and had allegedly attacked the duo in a fit of rage. He, according to police, had confessed that he could not take being rebuked by them for not getting the vehicle in time and opened fire in rage.

The chargesheet was filed on December 26, 2018, and charges were framed on January 9 last year.

On October 13, 2018, in a sensational shootout at Arcadia market in the city’s Sector 49, PSO Mahipal had opened fire on Sharma’s wife Ritu and their 18-year-old son Dhruv.

In videos recorded by bystanders, Mahipal was also seen trying to drag Dhruv’s body into the Honda City car in which they had arrived. Failing to do so, he dumped him and fled but was caught by Gurugram police after two hours from Gwal Pahari road.

While Ritu died on the spot, Dhruv breathed his last after 10 days.
