Chandigarh, February 11

The ‘Bill Liao Inaam Pao’ scheme, launched by the Aam Aadmi Party government last year, has started yielding results. With this scheme, the state government has identified and issued notices to 1,344 defaulters of Goods and Services Tax.

The scheme was launched in August last year. It is aimed at enhancing the GST revenue in the state by creating a culture where consumers demand the bills from traders, forcing the latter to issue bills and pay taxes on these sales.

These bills are then uploaded on the state government’s mobile application by the consumer. This serves as a database for the GST Department, which detects cases of tax evasion from the bills uploaded by consumers. These consumers, who upload the bills, have a chance to participate in a monthly lucky draw. Ten lucky winners in each taxation district are chosen and they get prizes equivalent to five times the taxable value of goods or services declared in the bill, with a capping of Rs 10,000. Prizes worth Rs 42 lakh have been given between September and December, it is learnt.
