1.94 lakh getting hypertension treatment

About 12,64,713 individuals have been screened under the Non-Communicable Diseases Screening Programme in 2019-20. Of these, 1,94,528 were diagnosed with hypertension and were put on treatment by the Health Department.
On World Hypertension Day, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said in wake of Covid-19 outbreak, all civil surgeons had been directed to ensure supply of medicines to patients as hypertension and diabetes were major co-morbid conditions contributing to a higher risk of contracting Covid.
It’s on record that high mortality rate has been witnessed among the patients who were suffering from chronic diseases.
He further said WHO-supported India Hypertension Control Initiative, involving five districts of Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Mansa and Pathankot, was doing well and had been extended to all districts.
