Punjab appears to be heading for the worst on the Covid front as the state reported 10 deaths and 6,481 new cases over the past 24 hours.

According to the medical bulletin released on Wednesday, the state reported 6,481 cases, which were one of the highest in the recent past.

In district-wise break-up, Patiala reported three deaths, Hoshiarpur two and Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Jalandhar and Ludhiana one each. Besides, 12 patients are critical. As many as 80 patients are receiving treatment in level-three of critical care and 290 are on oxygen support.

SAS Nagar topped the chart with 974 new infections, followed by Patiala 906, Ludhiana 724, Jalandhar 654 and Hoshiarpur 571. Covid testing has also increased as the Health Department conducted 34,529 tests over the past 24 hours. —
