Anticipating the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming urban civic polls, the Punjab Government issued transfer and posting orders for 10 IAS and 22 PCS officers on Friday.

With elections to the municipal corporations of Amritsar and Jalandhar expected to be announced shortly, key appointments have been made. Rakesh Kumar has been posted as Additional Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation (MC) Jalandhar, while Surinder Singh has been appointed Additional Commissioner and Jai Inder Singh as Joint Commissioner of MC Amritsar. However, the post of Principal Secretary to Chief Minister has not been filled. The post fell vacant after the superannuation of V K Singh on November 30, who was serving as the Special Chief Secretary to CM Mann.

Further, Alok Shekhar has been given the charge of Cooperation Department. Health Secretary Kumar Rahul has been entrusted with the additional responsibility f the Medical Education and Research Department. Ravi Shankar will continue to serve as Special Principal Secretary to CM.

Sarvjit Singh has been relieved of both Governance Reforms and Forest department, with Governance Reforms going to Vikas Pratap and Forests and Wildlife Preservation being given to Priyank Bharti. Finance Secretary A K Sinha has got the additional charge of the Power Department, which was earlier with Rahul Tiwari. — TNS
