Ten out of 13 inmates who had fled from the District De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre at Ghabdan Kothi on Saturday night have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, police said on Sunday.

The centre is located around 12 km from Sangrur on the road leading to Patiala.

The investigating officer Gurpiar Singh said before fleeing from the centre, the inmates beat up a security guard and tore the uniform of another staff member.

They escaped through the back gate after breaking it open, he added.

The arrested inmates were produced before a local court, which sent them to judicial custody. They have since been lodged in the district jail here.

Gurpiar said that three of the escapees are yet to be arrested.

A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by the security guard.
