The counter-intelligence wing of the Amritsar police has busted a trans-border arms smuggling module and seized 10 sophisticated pistols along with magazines. The weapons had been smuggled from Pakistan.
All pistols were of .30 bore calibre, said DGP Gaurav Yadav in a statement.
The police have arrested alleged drug smuggler Harjinder Singh, a resident of Dall village in Tarn Taran. According to the police, Harjinder, who was facing two cases under the NDPS Act, had recently come out on bail from a jail.
The development came a fortnight after the police busted a similar module with the arrest of three persons. The police had seized eight sophisticated weapons, one kg of heroin and Rs 2.9 lakh drug money from their possession.
“According to a preliminary investigation, the accused was working in collusion with a Pakistan-based smuggler, who has been using drones to drop weapon consignments from across the border,” said the DGP, adding that Harjinder was further distributing the arms to criminals and gangsters across Punjab in order to fuel criminal activities in the border state.
