A truck carrying 61 cows collided with a car on the mega highway near Hanumangarh. A total of 11 cows died in the mishap.

On receiving information, a team led by police station in-charge Ram Chander Kaswan reached the spot. The police said 61 cows were crammed into the truck, out of which 11 had died due to the accident. The police said they have arrested the truck driver and the helper, adding that they have sent the remaining 50 cows to a cowshed. Police officials said during the search of the truck, 200 grams of poppy husk were also recovered.

Police said cases were registered against the truck driver and the helper under the NDPS Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The SHO said they received information about the accident, which involved a truck and a car on the mega highway near Satipura Bypass at around 11 pm. He said when the police team reached the spot, many people had already gathered there. After the accident, the car hit a pillar while the truck skidded off the road. The SHO said the police team searched the truck and found that it was filled with 61 cows. He said with the help of animal activists, the cows were taken off the truck. He said 50 cows were in good condition; however, 11 had died on the spot.

Truck driver Mohammad Aslam Bharwana of Bhadra and Mohammad Khalil of Nohar were booked and arrested.
