Ferozepur, August 5
A total of 11 mobile phones were recovered from the jail premises here today, and another six were seized from the premises yesterday.
Officials said during a check in, eleven mobile phones, 71 packets of tobacco, 120 intoxicating capsules, and a packet of cigarettes, along with a charging cable and battery, were seized in two separate cases from the three undertrials, Manish Kumar, Kulwant Singh and Surjit Singh. The suspects have been booked under Section 52A of the 42 Prisons Act at the city police station (FIR Nos. 319 and 320). The officials said that they recovered six mobile phones from two undertrials, Gurpiar Singh and Mukhtiar Singh, who, along with another unidentified person, were booked.
Officials said a total of 358 mobiles have been seized from jail this year so far. Last year, 696 phones were seized, while in 2022, a total of 437 phones were seized. In 2021, 265 mobile phones were seized, and in 2020 only 130 were seized. — OC
