11-year-old raped, strangled to death in Rupnagar; migrant held

The police have arrested Pawan Kumar, 22, a native of Bihar, for allegedly raping and murdering an 11-year-old girl after Chhath puja celebrations on Thursday evening in Badhi village.

The victim and her two younger brothers were celebrating the festival in the neighbourhood. After the event, the two boys reached home but their sister did not.

The family raised the alarm after which police teams and village residents launched a search and found the body in a forested area. A case had been registered.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
