The administration has claimed to have roped in social organisations for the identification of beneficiary families under the Mission Vatsalya of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The process was initiated for providing financial aid to 12 eligible children living in needy families identified for sponsorship and foster care by a committee led by Assistant Commissioner Harbans Singh comprising social activists and government personnel from the Child Welfare Department.
Elaborating on the scheme launched under the mission, Deputy Commissioner Pallavi said underprivileged children, including orphans, those forced to do labour, living with other families or with single mothers were eligible for receiving Rs 4,000 per month for their education and subsistence expenses.
Rural families with the maximum annual income of Rs 72,000 and urban families with the maximum income of Rs 96,000 could apply for the consideration of their wards for availing assistance under the scheme, the DC said.
She added that personnel in the Social Security Department, led by District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, were told to rope in more social organisations which could act as a bridge between the administration and genuine beneficiaries.
Mission Vatsalya scheme was launched by the Union Government with the intent to foster a sensitive, supportive and synchronised niche for children as they transit different ages and stages of development.
The administration claimed that the mission promotes family based non-institutional care of children under the supervision of members of the committee constituted for the purpose.
