These fresh MD/MS graduates have already signed an indemnity bond of Rs 15 lakh, committing to serving the state government for two years after completing their postgraduate courses.

Muktsar MLA Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar welcomed the move, saying, “I am grateful to the state government. This will provide much needed relief to the public.”

Muktsar Civil Hospital has long been facing a shortage of doctors, with several specialist positions lying vacant. The new postings include a chest specialist, two medicine specialists, a microbiologist, two anaesthetists, a radiologist, an obstetrician-gynaecologist and a surgeon.

Dr Jagdeep Chawla, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Muktsar, said, “We have received the posting orders on WhatsApp and expect formal orders soon. The doctors are likely to join shortly.”

Deputy Medical Commissioner (DMC) Dr Bandna Bansal, who also holds charge of Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Muktsar, added, “These appointments will significantly strengthen our ability to serve patients. The posts of a number of specialists were vacant.”

At Gidderbaha Civil Hospital, the newly posted specialists include a dermatologist, an ophthalmologist and a medicine specialist.

However, challenges remain, as in the past many doctors have avoided joining duty in this region, preferring postings in major towns.
