13 more accomplices of Lawrence Bishnoi, Rinda gangs in police net

The police have arrested 13 more accomplices of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Harwinder Rinda. The two-week-long operation led to the arrest of nine sharpshooters and seizure of 13 weapons and 18 cartridges.

Inspector General of Police (IG), Headquarters, Sukhchain Singh Gill said those nabbed were planning at least five murders and seven dacoities. He said they had also planned to eliminate three members of their rival Bambiha-Pinda and Bambiha-Gounder gang.

Those arrested have been identified as Avtar, alias Mangal, Jobanpreet, Akashdeep, Harpreet, alias Kaka, Arshdeep, Lovjit and Resham, alias Bao, all residents of Tarn Taran; Gurpreet, alias Ghumma Shooter, Bobby, alias Baba, and Sonu, alias Pula, of Ferozepur; Gurpreet, alias Gopi, and Harman Kalsi of Jalandhar; and Balwinder, alias Billa, a resident of Kapurthala.

Jailed gangster Markas, alias Massa, who is associated with Ghumma Shooter and Gopi, was working on the directions of Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Bishnoi.

The IG said after the arrest of 11 members of the gang on June 29, the Jalandhar police had been working on some leads to nab their remaining accomplices.

“All those nabbed are history-sheeters and are facing cases in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Khanna, Mohali and Patiala,” he added.

“After busting these gangs, at least five murders and seven armed dacoities have been thwarted,” said the IG.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jalandhar (Rural), Swapan Sharma, said as per the preliminary investigation, the gang was operated by Ghumma Shooter and Gopi along with Massa, who was taking directions from Bhagwanpuria and Bishnoi. Massa has been languishing in jail and has 18 criminal cases registered against him.

The SSP further said Gopi and Jobanpreet were planning to eliminate three members of the Bambiha-Pinda gang. A recce was done and weapons were procured from a Madhya Pradesh-based arms supplier, he said, adding that Bao and Ghumma Shooter were planning to kill two persons from the Bambiha-Gounder gang.
