The police claimed to have arrested 14 persons for drug peddling in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh. Among the nabbed, four hail from Muktsar and Bathinda districts.

The Sadulshehar police today seized 55 gm of opium from Subhash Sain (26), who was recently elected as a gram panchayat member. The contraband was recovered from his house during a raid, the police said.

In another incident, Joginder Singh of Chak 16SDS village was held with 200 sedative tablets.

Sukhchain Singh of Doda village in Kotbhai block, Muktsar, and Bharat Bhushan of Malout were nabbed with 6 kg of poppy husk, Parminder Singh and Manoj Sharma of Bathinda 4 kg of poppy husk, and Swarup Swami and Waqil Singh of Indergarh with 15 kg of poppy husk. Rameshwer Jat and Rafiq Khan of Keharwala were apprehended with 310 gm of opium, and Sunil Kapdia of Chak 1GD village with 9 gm of heroin. — OC
