Muktsar, January 13

It has been nearly 15 years since the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) laid the foundation stone of the martyrs’ memorial dedicated to Mai Bhago and 40 Muktas on the Tibbi Sahib road here, but not even a single brick has been laid till date.

The foundation stone laid by the then SGPC chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, and the then SAD chief, Parkash Singh Badal, has gone missing. In the past, the SGPC held several meetings and gave assurances to start the construction at the earliest, but the work has not started yet.

On Thursday, at Maghi Day, a large number of people are expected to pay obeisance at the historic gurdwaras and take a dip in the holy pond. However, some monuments built in the memory of 40 Muktas are crying for repair.

Navtej Kauni, executive member, SGPC, said, “The proposed land is away from the main gurdwara, so we are planning to change the location of the memorial. The work is expected to start soon.”

Earlier too, there was a plan to change the location of the memorial, which did not happen.
